The Spanish Patent and Trade Mark Office (SPTO) is an autonomous body that forms part of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism and which promotes and supports technological and economic development. It provides legal protection to all types of industrial property by awarding patents and utility models (inventions); industrial designs; trade marks and trade names (distinctive signs) and rights protecting topographies of semiconductor products. It also disseminates information on the various ways in which industrial property can be protected.
It is a private non profit Foundation created by initiative of the regional Goverment of the Community of Madrid ein November 2006 in order to shorten the distance between the research and society in the Madrid region and provide new capacity for research, technological development and innovation in the field of Nanoscience, Nanotechnology and Molecular Design

Its main value is a quality teaching to develop skills and capacities for the employment and to make grow responsible citizens.
